ANONIMO Nautilo 2ndLOOK

It's been pretty much a year to this day that I last had a look at what Anonimo were doing. And I have to be honest a year on the watches are looking a lot better.

When Anonimo released the SAILOR under new ownership in 2013, I was - let's just say disappointed at the new direction the hardcore Italian dive watch brand were sailing in. I described the Sailor as soulless.

Then last year the NAUTILO was unveiled and it was actually not a bad looking watch - by no means a serious diver but not without merit.

This month Anonimo have partnered with SFS which gets them right back in the ocean where they belong. And at Basel they showed off their latest Nautilo collection which includes a few bronze models.

One very special model in the Nautilo collection that Anonimo recently took down to Saint-Tropez to show off to what I’d consider it to be their new luxury demographic was the Nautilo Black Bronze.

For those of us who knew and loved the old school Anonimo brand set up by Dino Zei et al will probably never warm to the brand of today but if we look at the Nautilo collection in isolation it ain't that bad really.

My only complaint is the 200m water-resistance rating of the watches. There is no need for the cases to be any thicker or production to be any more costly if they went up to 300m. In fact I'm sure that Anonimo wouldn't even break a sweat rating their watches at 1000m.

Basic specifications of the Nautilo family include: a 44.4mm diameter case in either Stainless steel, Bronze or DLC and a domed and anti-reflective treated Sapphire crystal.

The dials are available in black blue and silver with a beautiful snailed pattern which is somewhat reminiscent of an old vinyl record. Notice the hour hand's design which is supposed to echo the A of the Anonimo logo. The dial is exceptionally well-balanced with the date at 6 o’clock.

Power comes from a Swiss made Sellita SW200-1 automatic mechanical movement. The entire Nautilo collection comprises of no less than 12 different variations. Follow the ink embedded, below for more on the Nautilo collection . . .
