ETERNA Super KonTiki NEW for 2015

By TLex For 2015, Eterna have revised the Super KonTiki AKA the 2010 Heritage Super KonTiki LE 1973; there's a comparison pic. down the bottom for your perusal (sorry, the scale is a little off), but at a glance the first issue I have is with the new handset - I just prefer the Heritage versions'. As well as three dial variants, the new 2015 Super KonTiki collection will be joined by an 888 piece BLACK PVD Limited Edition version.

The case, which is in Stainless steel has been bumped up 1mm from 44 to 45mm. It has all the typical divers features such as a Sapphire crystal, a screwdown crown and casseback and is water resistant to 300 meters, so a 100 meter improvement on the Heritage's 200m.

It is powered by a Swiss automatic movement based on the Sellita caliber SW200-1 with 26 jewels, a 28,800 vph beat-rate and a power reserve of 38 hours. There is no mention of a COSC certification, so a downgrade there.

The Super KonTiki's dial is in jet black dial with a choice of either white or vintage yellow SLN hour- markers and handset. A third version is with a red/orange dial ring, second hand and 12hr bezel pip. It comes on a steel Milanese (mesh) bracelet along with a black NATO strap with two contrasting orange stripes, or a tan hand-stitched vintage leather strap with a Stainless steel buckle.

It's a bit of a mixed bag really; there are some improvements certainly and a few nice surprises, but there are also some minor disappointments. What do you think - sink or swim? BTW, the new Super KonTiki Black is as hot as hell, though!

MSRP is 2550CHF. The Heritage version was around 2950CHF. Read my REVIEW of the Heritage 'Super KonTiki LE 1973
