PARMIGIANI FLEURIER Pershing CBF & Samba MADERIA

By TLex The Brazil 2014 World Cup has already reached the knock-out phase! There have been some real surprises and a few disappointments (the woes of being an England fan). However as partners of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), Italian luxury brand, Parmigiani Fleurier are still eager to live this event to its fullest and have created the CBF collection in the honor of its bond with Brazil.

There are two models, the Pershing 005 Confederacao Brasileira de Futebol Titanium & White Gold and Titanium & Rose Gold, and the latest creation from Parmigiani Fleurier, the Pershing Samba Madeira; celebrating Brazil, with its vibrant colors and lively Samba rhythms. Its features, are in such minute detail that you would have to use a magnifying glass to make out the fragments of a wooden fresco.

The watch's dial depicts a close-up of a guitar, its sound hole made precisely to the dimensions of the cage of a tourbillon. An ancestral technique known as 'Marquetry' that consists of tracing, cutting out, then assembling minuscule segments of wood, like creating a mosaic was used to achieve a finely detailed decorative effect. It was entirely hand-crafted and each segment of the design has been uniquely prepared – including the 6 guitar strings which are as fine as a single strand of hair.

In January 2013, Parmigiani Fleurier presented two tourbillons which also celebrated the joy of music. The Tonda Woodrock and Tonda Woodstock – in tribute to British and American rock music – both feature a guitar in marquetry with, in the background, a Union Jack and the Stars and Stripes flags, respectively.

In the background, behind the guitar, are the words "Ordem e Progresso", the country's national motto which appears across a star-spangled globe, as on the Brazilian flag. The watch features the dominant colors of the Brazilian flag (green, yellow and dark blue) which sweep across the fresco and are picked up again in the Hermès strap.

With a whopping 192-hour power reserve, the PF510 caliber movement that this unique watch is equipped with is composed of over 237 hand-finished components. The back of the movement features fine bevelling, and delicate Côtes de Genève decorations adorn the bridges.

Its Titanium case is set off by the 18 carat Rose Gold of the bezel dive-time scale. The Pershing Samba Madeira is a unique model and comes in a presentation case which has been hand-painted with the colors of the Brazilian flag to match.
